Educational settings

“Each room or other space in a school building shall be designed and constructed in such a way that it has the acoustic conditions and the insulation against disturbance by noise appropriate to its intended use.” (Building Reg E4)

Schools, colleges and educational environments are required to meet acoustic standards for speech intelligibilty and sound insulation.

We are experienced in providing acoustic services for mainstream educational establishments, alongside schools offering a specialised educational environment, such as for the hearing impaired or those with conditions such as autism.

These learning spaces catering for students with special educational needs require refined acoustics targets reflecting the importance of high level acoustic functioning to support learning and well-being.

Specific services for educational environments:

  • Acoustic Design and Sound Insulation between spaces (BB93)
  • Computer modelling of noise transfer between spaces using SON Architect to assist with value engineering
  • HVAC noise impact assessments
  • Acoustic design in office spaces within schools and educational settings
  • BREEAM Hea 05 Credits for health and wellbeing
  • Room acoustic modeling using advanced 3D noise modelling techniques with Odeon software
  • Speech intelligibility assessments
  • Noise ingress assessments
  • Sports and MUGA-pitch assessments
